Pyeongchang: Olympic officials are discussing measures to combat the spread of a virus that causes vomiting and diarrhoea after 42 new cases were confirmed at the Winter Games, a Korean Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) official said on Friday.

US Vice President Pence - who has not ruled out a meeting with the North's delegates - on Friday called Pyongyang "the most tyrannical regime on the planet" as he met defectors at a memorial to the Cheonan, a South Korean corvette that sank in 2010, killing 46 sailors. She arrived Friday as the first member of her family to visit South Korea since the Korean War in 1950-53.

Three times a charmHaving hosted the Summer Games, World Championships and the World Cup, South Korea has always been looking to complete what it calls "the sports grand slam" by also hosting the Winter Games to host all four major sports events.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has dispatched a delegation of more that 500, including his increasingly influential sister Kim Yo Jong.

As for the opening ceremony, planners are likely to pay particular attention to stadium bottlenecks, "where you're walking down and maybe there's only one aisle that goes down to the main seating for the VVIPs", said Peter Selfridge, who served as chief of protocol in the Obama White House.

The 169 sportspeople who have been invited to attend will compete under the banner of "Olympic athletes from Russia" and will fly the Olympic flag rather than the Russian one.

Nathan Chen, the 18-year-old star of United States figure skating, did not get off to a good start at the Winter Olympics.

While welcoming inter-Korean human exchanges during the Olympics, the Moon administration needs to deal with meetings with the North Korean delegates with cool prudence and focus on negotiations to persuade Pyongyang to stop, for good, the kind of provocative acts it has repeatedly taken in the past. Japan's Shoma Uno scored 103.25 points to lead the team event, while Israel's Alexei Bychenko scored 88.49.

Yet Africa has never hosted a Games.

The ruling, announced just hours before tonight's Opening Ceremony, also prohits six-time Olympic short-track speed skating gold medallist Viktor Ahn, Sergei Ustyugov and Anton Shipulin - world champions in cross-country and biathlon respectively - from competing.

Skeleton's Nikitina was stripped of her bronze medal from Sochi 2014.

PyeongChang Games is also the largest in terms of participating athletes and countries at 2,925 and 92, respectively. We want our athletes to compete against best but in the knowledge that they are competing against clean athletes.

A group of South Korean B-boys, or break dancers, twisted their bodies and flipped relentlessly after walking into the center of a group of North Korean athletes. Eastern Time / 5 p.m.

"We together with other countries will initiate the change of organization of anti-doping efforts throughout the world".

"In addition to the games, PyeongChang seeks to be a "Culture Olympics" as well", with a total of 1,900 culture-related programs taking place during the games in Gangwon Province.
