Kyle Shanahan helped turn two running backs in Atlanta into multi-million dollar stars, and that bodes well for McKinnon.

According to reports from ESPN, the San Francisco 49ers are expected to sign running back Jerick McKinnon to a four-year deal, shoring up the Niners' offensive backfield after the exit of RB Carlos Hyde.

"We see Weston as one of the top young interior offensive linemen in the NFL", Lynch said. "We can't wait to get them on the field with their teammates and coaches later this spring".

McKinnon had his most productive season a year ago, when he ran for a career-high 570 yards while setting personal bests with 51 catches for 421 yards.

After four years in a part-time, fill-in role for Minnesota, McKinnon has parlayed his explosiveness into a very nice $30 million deal.

The 49ers had previously re-signed starting center Daniel Kilgore to a three-year contract last month but Kilgore also has experience at guard and could be asked to move. From Week 5 on, McKinnon averaged 3.9 yards per rush, gaining 544 yards on 140 carries while catching 43 passes for 381 yards.

In 2017, Pro Football Focus ranked McKinnon as the 8th best running back in the NFL, with an 84.6 overall grade, including a 82.4 receiving grade. He saw his workload increase in 2017 after rookie running back Dalvin Cook went down at the beginning of the season.

After leaving Minnesota this offseason, McKinnon is heading west to San Francisco where he could break through to the next level of his career. Already in-house, San Francisco has undersized scat back Matt Breida along with 2017 preseason hype candidate Joe Williams and Tampa Bay castoff Jeremy McNichols.
