A Third Nor'easter Might Be Coming for the East Coast

More than 300,000 homes and businesses have no electricity as heavy, wet snow pulled down power lines and trees across Massachusetts Thursday. The South Coast is expected to see 1-3 inches.

Power outages remained, however, with new outages reported as a result of Wednesday's storm, which dropped up to 21 inches of snow in this area. "At this point it's too early to say", said Jim Nodchey, a National Weather Service meteorologist in MA.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of NY said in a briefing on Tuesday that 78,000 people were still without power in the state, which he considered "unacceptable".

Very heavy snow is also falling in New England; in the coastal areas, there is more rain than snow.

"It looks cool as long as they don't fall down on you and you don't lose power", he said.

More than two dozen flights into and out of the Portland International Jetport were canceled or delayed. Outside New York City in the commuter city of Montclair alone, there were more than 100 streets closed due to down trees or power lines, city officials said. The New York City Department of Sanitation issued a Snow Alert, with Alternate Side Parking rules suspended through Thursday, as well as a hazardous travel advisory. Service was scheduled to resume at 11 a.m. Thursday. As of 6:48 a.m., PSE&G NJ reported over 30,000 customers without power and JCPL has reported over 78,000 customers without power.

Transportation departments in Philadelphia and Boston loaded up salt trucks and pre-treated roads Tuesday afternoon, and some airlines already were waiving ticket change fees for airports in the storm's projected path, such as Newark, Philadelphia, Boston and New York's JFK. A wedge of dry air pushed into the region as the storm arrived, robbing it of some of its punch.

A band of winter weather will "pivot northeast into Boston" later Thursday morning and early afternoon, forecasters said, possibly leaving up to another inch of snow.

"Minor to moderate flooding; inundation of low-lying areas, especially where coast was compromised with last storm; overwash, beach erosion also expected", it tweeted. So far in March we have yet to break 60 degrees here in D.C. and now have none in the forecast for at least the next 7 days. Reports from Hardyston had 17 inches in the Stockholm section and 15.5 inches reported by another observer in the township. It got between 2.5 and 7.

Boston got about 5.9 inches of snow in total, and another few flakes may be coming throughout this morning, according to the National Weather Service. The storm wasn't predicted to be as severe as the nor'easter that toppled trees, inundated coastal communities and caused more than 2 million power outages from Virginia to ME last Friday.
