Anfield hero urges Jurgen Klopp to copy Jose Mourinho tactic

United, who are two points ahead of Liverpool in the race for second place, proved they could stifle Jurgen Klopp's frontline in October's Anfield stalemate.

Two goals from Marcus Rashford helped United to a 2-1 win over Klopp's side at Old Trafford - but the Liverpool manager found himself in trouble after racing 20 metres down the touchline to remonstrate with his player Dejan Lovren. He [Rashford] played for Manchester United many, many, many times.

"In these types of games, when the pressure is on you, you just be yourself and I think that's what seems to happen in these games and the team seems to react well, when maybe we don't react as well in other games", said the 20-year-old.

"Eric Bailly was exactly the opposite, he was on the pitch, after the own goal he showed the mentality we want - a fantastic example for everybody".

Liverpool found themselves two goals down at half-time after two goal-kicks that were won superbly by Romelu Lukaku were twice punished by Rashford.

Jose Mourinho's side stand every chance of going through after bringing a 0-0 back from their first leg away to Sevilla.

A deflected strike from Willian and a Martin Kelly own goal put Chelsea in control at the break, but they took their foot off the gas in the second half.

But it was far too little, too late for United.

What a ridiculous concept, especially when the slightest bit of homework would have made them realise just how important Rashford is to Mourinho and United.

Both teams are effectively playing for second, with Man City a massive 18 points head of Liverpool at the top of the league.

Peculiarly, Cristiano Ronaldo, while he was enjoying his spell under Sir Alex Ferguson in Manchester, happened to have scored a goal nearly identical to Rashford's, way back in 2007. You can not leave a player alone like Lukaku, everyone knows that and we trained that of course.

In the North East, Newcastle United secured a 3-0 victory over Southampton to move five points clear of the bottom three, piling the pressure on Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino.

I don't remember a unsafe situation to our goal.

West Bromwich Albion's woes continued as they slipped to a 4-1 home defeat by Leicester City.
