French police arrested a man suspected of driving a stolen auto at a group of soldiers jogging outside their base in the foothills of the Alps on Thursday, a police source said, quoted by Reuters.

The soldiers were heading out for their morning jog just before 9am this morning in the Varces-Allières-et-Risset region in South East France, when a auto cascaded into the group, according to France Bleu. No one was hurt in the incident.

French Army spokesman Colonel Benoît Brulon said the man had "verbally threatened" the troops as they left their barracks, before trying to ram them as they returned.

None of the soldiers suffered any injuries in the attack, which took place around 9am local time on Thursday.

A state of emergency put in place just after the Paris attacks was finally lifted in October past year, but soldiers continue to patrol major tourist sites and transport hubs under an anti-terror mission.

Nobody was reportedly injured in the incident, while the driver of a black Peugeot auto escaped from the site, while manhunt is underway.

French police have arrested a man who tried to run over a group of soldiers in south-eastern France. The official said the reason for the driver's actions was unknown and it was unclear if the soldiers were deliberately targeted.

Children are being kept inside schools amid safety concerns, according to the town's mayor.

In the original incident, a man shouted death threats from his vehicle window at several groups of French soldiers out for a morning jog in the French Alps before trying to run two of them over, a military spokesman said.

"Given the context, the incident is being taken seriously but we don't know his motivations".

France is on edge following the killing of four people in an ISIS-inspired rampage on March 23. The gendarme was killed by the Moroccan-born assailant.
