Meghan attends Commonwealth Day service

Meghan Markle will attend her first official event with the Queen today when she joins senior royals at a service marking Commonwealth Day.

Meghan wowed in white for the occasion, donning a cream-colored Amanda Wakeley coat with a white Stephen Jones hat and navy heels, seemingly taking a style cue from her future sister-in-law, Kate Middleton. Beauty-wise, she wore her brunette hair down in loose waves, while a smokey eye and natural lipstick completed her look.

The Duchess of Cambridge and Meghan Markle looked chic in classic silhouettes as they arrived at a service to mark Commonwealth Day.

It was part of Markle's on-going preparation for joining the royal firm, which has included multiple engagements on the "meet Meghan" trail and an appearance, with the queen, at the royal family's annual Christmas service at Sandringham. The Duchess paired the design with blue shoes.

The course is aimed at ensuring Meghan is prepared for all possible emergencies as a member of the Royal Family, the Express reports. Prince William and Kate, and Prince Harry and Meghan, then walked through Dean's Yard to attend a reception.

Former One Direction band member Liam Payne will perform during the service - but the Duke of Edinburgh, who has effectively retired from public duties, will not be attending.

'We shall see this in action at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting which takes place in the United Kingdom next month, bringing together young people, business and civil society from across the Commonwealth.

William faced criticism past year when he missed the service to attend his controversial lads-only skiing holiday in Verbier.

The Commonwealth Service is the largest inter-faith gathering in the United Kingdom and is now being televised on the BBC. Since then, it has grown from seven nations to 53 members, representing 2.4 billion citizens.

These events come ahead of two extra special dates in the Royal family - the birth of William and Kate's third child in April and the wedding of Meghan and Harry on May 19.
