The New York Yankees have signed veteran second baseman Neil Walker, pending physical, per Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan on Monday morning.

FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the deal will be worth about $5 million. A career.272 hitter with 130 homers and 522 RBIs, the 32-year-old can play multiple infield positions, a trait that will likely come in handy with the Yankees, who won't shy away from exploiting their versatility.

One of the dozens of free agents still waiting to be signed after a slow (which is putting it mildly) offseason, the Walker deal rescues another veteran from the recently closed free-agent spring training camp.

Over 448 plate appearances in 2017, Walker produced a.265 batting average with 14 home runs, 59 runs scored, and 49 RBI.

Although we're now into the final two weeks of spring training, Walker won't be starting from scratch, as he had been working out the last couple weeks with other unsigned free agents in Bradenton, Fla. Walker was dealt to Milwaukee on August 12.Walker recently told The New York Times that he had discussions with the Yankees this offseason, believing that he could bounce between first base, second base and third base.

Regardless, Walker could have a highly-productive stay in the Bronx.

Neil Walker is returning to NY. However, those negotiations stalled after the Yankees' acquisition of Brandon Drury from the D-backs on February 20.A career.272 hitter with 130 home runs, Walker captured a Silver Slugger Award with the Pirates in 2014.
