The total number of flu-related deaths in Oklahoma is now up to 194, according to the state health department's weekly flu summary.

According to the Shelby County Health Department, visits for flu symptoms wind down in late January. Both numbers are far below the peaks reached earlier this flu season. Compared to the previous week, this was a decrease of 7,968 cases.

A total of 2,161 patients have been hospitalized with confirmed cases of flu between August 27, 2017 and February 24, 2018.

MDH also downgraded Minnesota's geographic spread of the flu from widespread to regional for the first time since mid-December.

Smith also said that running out of flu vaccinations can in fact be a good sign because it means that the Health Center did not have to waste any vaccines or money.

Weekly flu-case count in New York state declines for first time this season

"We're in the middle of a nationwide flu epidemic and I'm asking North Carolinians to do their part to stay healthy and stop the flu from spreading", Cooper said in a statement.

This flu season is one of the worst in memory.

While the National Institutes of Health is funding Mount Sinai's work, some researchers believe with more funds we could see a universal flu vaccine in less than five years. The goal is to get 80 percent of all Americans and 90 percent of at-risk populations (the elderly and children, in particular) vaccinated every year.

New data shows that 21 of those who died from the flu were between the ages of 18-years-old and 49-years-old. 1 out of 3 people who get the vaccine will be protected.

"This year, unfortunately, it is worse than what we have seen over the last 10 years nearly". Although some news sources have reported this year's vaccine is only expected to be 10 percent effect, CDC experts say that is incorrect for the U.S.
