Snapchat prepping new feature that lets users tag anyone in their Stories

Think Snapchat's 2018 update sucks? Here's how to turn off automatic updates in future

Tagging on posts may seem familiar to some of you and that's because Snapchat's biggest rival - Instagram - has had it for a while now. Tagging could also assist Snapchat in improving the intertwining of Stories and messaging, which now appear on the same tap post the app's revamp.

To tag someone, type out a username in the text field and then swipe up on the "more" option located at the bottom of the screen, which will open a section titled 'People, ' displaying the user's information. However, Instagram has also ripped off not one feature from Snapchat. However, the feature is not being rolled out to all users, and is now in the pilot phase, the company said to TechCrunch. The company also confirmed that a person who is tagged will receive a notification of the same, provided he/she is in the beta test of this feature as well.

The new feature is possibly designed as a bonus for celebrities and influencers, in the hopes of attracting more followers and/or views to provide them with a stronger platform, which in turn would create greater competition for Instagram and YouTube. So if you suddenly get dozens of friend requests without warning, perhaps a friend has gotten tag-happy. Usernames will automatically generate a tappable link to the associated profile.

Apparently the new tagging system is now being rolled out - so be on the lookout!

Last month, the company added a "Tabs" feature to the app that separates Snaps into Group Chats and active Stories.
