When asked which party's candidates they would vote for were the election held today, voters picked a generic Democrat in nine of Virginia's 11 congressional districts.

Democratic midterm primary turnout hit its biggest mark in decades in Texas, but there were still more Republicans who cast ballots in 2018. That's double the number of votes won in the Democratic primary by Rep. Beto O'Rourke, who will be his opponent. "Texas results confirmed the conventional wisdom that millions of Democrats can't wait to express their displeasure with President Donald Trump at the polls", Rasmussen continued.

There they were, cheering as a candidate explained why she had just decided days before to drop out of the race in the midst of a cycle where a record-setting number of women are running for Congress.

The Democrats' alternative has been overpowered before Schumer and his Senate colleagues knew there was a struggle.

"Left-wing rage may raise a bunch of money from people online, but I don't believe it reflects the views of a majority of Texans", he told reporters after winning the nomination.

Florida U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson isn't one of them, as a matter of fact, Nelson is listed as one of the least vulnerable of the ten Democrats.

It is perfectly fine and potentially helpful for Democrats to run in primaries and offer differing views about the future of the party and the nation, but Democrats should reject the kind of unfair and unprovoked attacks recently launched by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) against a good Democratic candidate running for a House seat in Texas.

President Donald Trump won each of those states in the 2016 election and is now polling above 50 percent in all five states. It won't matter in districts with an incumbent running, as that single Republican will make the November ballot along with whoever tops the Democrats in June. Not in every state, obviously: Some states, like Arizona and California, have lines drawn by nonpartisan commissions while others, like Maryland and IL, have Democratic gerrymanders.

The Texas primary results were closely watched around the country. She pointed to how Lupe Valdez - now facing Andrew White in a runoff for the Democratic gubernatorial primary - ran for governor even though she could have stayed on as Dallas County sheriff.

We are still months away from the general election in November, and several races are still taking shape. John Culberson, Will Hurd and Pete Sessions - who saw 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton outpoll Trump in their districts.

Issa won reelection in California's 49th district in 2016 by the barest of margins: less than 2,000 votes.

"I think that what they want me to understand is [their] frustration with the president", he said.

A runoff election, similar to the primary, will determine which candidate from the party will represent the party in the November election. They contend that some of the new Democratic candidates will prove to be unelectable.

GOP operatives have gleefully watched the drama unfold.

For all the talk of renewed Democratic energy heading into the 2018 midterms, Texas Republicans also set a new benchmark for turnout in a midterm election.

Still, one expert said that Texas Democrats are making steps in what would for them, be the right direction. Former intelligence officer Gina Ortiz Jones claimed one runoff spot with 41 percent of the vote, while three others battled for the second. In the 32nd District, Colin Allred will face Lillian Salerno for the Democratic nomination.

In the 23rd District, which follows hundreds of miles of the Mexican border, five Democrats are looking to unseat Hurd.

"It's the Democratic tidal wave versus the Republican seawall", Mr. Cook said.
