UFC London Results: The Real Winners and Losers from Volkov vs. Werdum

The 127th installment of UFC Fight Night rolls into London on Saturday with a midday start for us (B) East Coasters here in the US. Werdum is working the head and body from guard and intermittently using the can-opener.

Werdum rushed across the cage at the sound of the opening bell and quickly changed levels to put Volkov on his back. Werdum with hammer fists now. Werdum avoids any significant strikes and then throws a flying knee. Volkov catches a kick and pushes Werdum down before allowing him back up. Fabricio scores another takedown and round one comes to an end. My opponent Fabricio Werdum is a great guy, a legend of our sport, but I'm coming right now. Werdum gets a takedown in the center of the mat and is again in Volkov's full guard.

Werdum starts things off by teasing the jumping kick but doesn't throw. Normally that would be the end against Werdum, but Volkov found a way to slip out of it and avoid damage. Werdum with a right hand followed by a low kick. Volkov is on a five-fight win streak and a win over Werdum would certainly put him in the title hunt.

Slowly but surely Alexander Volkov has scrapped his way into the heavyweight top 10, courtesy of victories over Tim Johnson, Roy Nelson and Stefan Struve.

An ill-advised flurry of punches in the fourth round seemed to signal Fabricio's final attempt at winning the fight before the inevitable doctor's stoppage and sure enough, when Volkov was able to counter the result was devastating.

Werdum throws a leg kick and has a high kick blocked. Werdum then beautifully takes the back and goes for an armbar, but Volkov escapes nicely.

Joining Volkov as a Performance of the Night victor was undercard fighter Paul Craig, who pulled off a miraculous comeback in his fight with Magomed Ankalaev. Werdum is looking exhausted now and Volkov sees it.
