A Texas Waffle House employee who spent the past year saving up for college is one step closer to her goal after she received a $16,000 college scholarship from Texas Southern University.

It was just another day for Evoni Williams, 18, as she worked her job at a Texas Waffle House in La Marque on March 3rd.

The trending photo caught the attention of her hometown officials, with LaMarque Mayor Bobby Hocking recognizing her with a proclamation on Thursday, the Chronicle said.

Having trouble cutting up his meat, the 78-year-old asked for help.

Of course she said yes, but what the two didn't know is they were being watched by another customer.

On Saturday, Williams was working a shift at the breakfast eatery when customer Adrian Charpentier came in for something to eat.

Laura Wolf, another Waffle House customer, noticed the act of kindness and took a picture, later posting it on Facebook.

"Without hesitation, she took his plate and began cutting up his ham", she wrote in the post.

Williams kind gesture went viral on social media, and on Thursday, it was returned with a big surprise.

"I got my own day", Williams said. She added that the gentleman had required help because his hands were "not functioning too well". She wants to study business management.

Evoni told reporters it was something she "would do any other day".
