Xbox One X and Xbox One S will soon support AMD FreeSync displays

Once a Mixer streamer shows their controller, a viewer on PC can take control of the virtually-displayed controller or a physical Xbox One controller. The first episode had details on Sea of Thieves, PixArk, and the Xbox version of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.

Microsoft has said they're planning to add support for AMD's FreeSync displays for its Xbox One X and Xbox One S, and will drop to the console soon.

We already know the Xbox will receive a big software update in the coming weeks, including 1440p support for the Xbox One X. Among the other new features coming are AMD Freesync support for enabled monitors and low-latency mode support for compatible TVs.

The Xbox Engineering team has been working on the feature, which is called Auto Low Latency Mode, and it will work with any "supported TV". By introducing this feature, Microsoft is removing a pain point for anyone who uses their TV for gaming and watching movies. Most FreeSync displays don't enable the variable-refresh technology below 48 Hz or so unless their top-end is over 120 Hz-a characteristic that lets them support AMD's Low Framerate Compensation. Like Nvidia's G-Sync, it helps to remove tearing and stuttering usually associated with gaming on monitors, as the tech syncs refresh rates to ensure games are running smoothly.

Some of the highlights from the Inside Xbox episode featured the latest updates coming to Xbox One now and later this Spring. LFC requires support from the graphics driver as well as the monitor, so it will be interesting to see how well the system's mostly-30-FPS Xbox games work in FreeSync mode.
