Xiaomi's Global MIUI 9 OS Expands To More Smartphones

The list of phones to receive the update include, Xiaomi Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 4A, Redmi Note Prime, Redmi 3S, Redmi 3S Prime, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi 1S, Redmi Note 3, Redmi Y1, Redmi Y1 Lite, Redmi 4, Redmi Note 4, Mi 4i, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi Max, Mi Max Prime, Mi 5, Mi MIX 2, and the Mi Max 2.

We already know that the device will be an Amazon exclusive after the e-commerce giant published a launch page for the upcoming device. Xiaomi has been posting teasers about the new upcoming smartphone using the hashtag CompactPowerhouse.

Redmi 5 was first launched in China back in December a year ago alongside Redmi 5 Plus. And as the name suggests, the Redmi 5 will be the successor to the popular Redmi 4 smartphone launched in India a year ago.

The pro version- Redmi Note 5 Pro also comes in two RAM+Storage variants of 4GB+64GB and 6GB+64GB which are priced at Rs 13,999 and Rs 16,999, respectively.

Marking the end of its introductory pricing offer, Xiaomi has now increased the pricing for its Redmi 5A 2GB RAM model in India to Rs. 5,999, which roughly converts to $92.

The Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro were introduced last month in the country, and boast narrow-bezel display and enhanced camera features as their highlights. The company has launched two variants of the device in China, we can expect the same in India.

Xiaomi will have a live stream for the launch of its #CompactPowerhouse on its website Mi.com.

In terms of hardware specifications, Redmi 5 is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 450 SoC based on a 14nm FinFET technology and coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. Many of their popular models like Xiaomi Redmi 4, Mi Mix 2, Redmi Note 3 are still stuck in older Android versions.

The Redmi 5 is equipped with 5.7-inch HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio, 720x1440p resolution and 282ppi pixel density.

In China, Redmi 5 was launched in three variants: 2GB RAM+16GB storage, 3GB RAM+32GB storage and 4GB RAM+32GB storage. The other goodies on board the Redmi 5 are Android 7.1 Nougat topped with MIUI 9, 4G VoLTE, dual SIM support and a 3300mAh battery. The powerful smartphone that comes at an affordable price has been promoted extensively by Xiaomi on social media platforms Facebook and Twitter. There is also a 5MP secondary camera equipped with selfie flash. It packs a 3,300mAh battery, has a thickness of just 7.7mm and weighs 157 grams.
