Ayew rescues a point for Swansea against Everton

Jordan Ayew returns from a three-match suspension for Swansea City as they host Everton

The former Aston Villa forward had missed the Swans' defeats to Tottenham Hotspurs and Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion stalemate while serving a three-match suspension for his expulsion in their goalless stalemate with Huddersfield on March 10.

With six games to go in the league for the Swans, they sit in in fifteenth place in the table, four points above the relegation zone and they know a win this weekend could all but confirm their survival for another season in the top flight.

"I was itching to get back because the three games plus the global break, it has been a month since I have played", he said.

But Ayew, who was this week described as one of the Premier League's best forwards by manager Carlos Carvalhal, gave Swansea a sharp focal point in attack.

Returning from a three-match ban, Ayew struck his 11th goal of the season in the 71st minute just when Everton appeared on course for a win at Liberty Stadium.

He said: "We've come here and got the lead and dug out a point. I'm sure Swansea are saying they should have won it and perhaps they should but our keeper takes some beating".

And the travelling fans rounded on Allardyce both at half-time and when he replaced winger Yannick Bolasie with central defender Ramiro Funes Mori in the final quarter.

"We were happy to get a goal ahead after riding out some early pressure but we could not withstand it in the second half".

"If you look at their home record and the teams they have beaten on their own ground we were more than aware of the challenge in front of us".

"It's not the best performance but it moves us on".
