James McAvoy and Bill Hader may join It: Chapter 2 as start of filming looms

Dream-casting the grown-ups in the It sequel has been one of the more enjoyable pastimes surrounding the success of the first movie, but even if you had other people in mind for these characters in particular, it's hard to see this casting news as anything but exciting. They'd be joining Jessica Chastain, who's already confirmed to be portraying Beverly Marsh, the sole female member of the Losers Club who ends up trapped in a fairly miserable marriage.

The latest names that are reportedly close to signing on the dotted line are X-Men and Split star James McAvoy, who would play the adult Bill Denbrough, the nominal leader of the Losers Club, and Inside Out and Trainwreck star Bill Hader, who would play the adult Richie Tozier. The site reports that Hader would be playing adult Richie while McAvoy would be adult Bill. Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard previously played the part in the 2017 blockbuster. Not only that, but just this morning we learned that Andy Muschietti and Gary Dauberman will be back as director and screenwriter, respectively.

Muschietti told Variety last fall that he hoped to bring all of the original actors back for flashback sequences in the sequel but sources say that is still being worked out.

Bill Skarsgard will reprise his role as Pennywise the Clown. Chapter Two will follow the last half of the novel, when the characters return to their hometown years later as adults to face Pennywise once again.

"Chapter 2" is scheduled to begin production in July and is set to be released in theatres by Warner Bros on September 6, 2019.

The 2017 film adaptation of King's classic novel became a massive hit at the theaters, grossing $700 million worldwide.

It: Chapter Two is now scheduled to hit theaters on September 6, 2019.
