Castlevania Grimoire of Souls for iOS

Konami revealed on Tuesday that it is developing a new smartphone game in the Castlevania series titled Akumajō Dracula Grimoire of Souls (Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls). In order to verify the meaning of the words written in the letter - "The Grimoire is unleashed, and Count Dracula will be resurrected" - Genya Arikado heads off towards the letter's sender. So take that as you will.

The game "invites" players to bring in their friends for either four player co-op or competitive sessions, against both large and small enemies. He's from a top-secret Japanese agency with a secret identity of his own. Grimoire of Souls will see players co-operate to explore Dracula's castle in an all-new adventure. Other characters from the Castlevania series are also playable, including Alucard, Simon Belmont, Charlotte, Shanoa, and Marie. Along with his assistant Lucy, a female researcher and magician, Arikado is gunning to make sure Dracula doesn't make his big return.

The game features exciting fights for up to four players, real-time global co-op, 4v4 competitive mode, attractive graphics and music from previous Castlevania-games.

The title looks great graphically.

While this could have been much, much worse, it's another reminder that Konami really doesn't seem to be interested in releasing a significant new Castlevania title for consoles.

The question here is why iOS though? I'll openly admit, I had to use Google for that one.

The closed beta for Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls will begin around mid-May. Details are few and far between at the moment, but it seems that the game emphasizes the value of putting characters into pairs. No timeframe for a full release has been disclosed at this point.
