McClatchy is out with a report about Trump attorney Michael Cohen that could prove to be a significant development in the Robert Mueller investigation. Previous search warrants allowed NY federal prosecutors to search multiple email accounts, the filing said.

Assistant US Attorney Tom McKay accused Cohen of trying to invoking "wildly overbroad" claims of attorney-client privilege to avoid the disclosure of thousands of allegedly privileged communications related to the president and other cases.

After three separate hearings on the matter Friday, U.S. District Court Judge Kimba Wood said she did not have enough information to issue any ruling on that request.

Federal prosecutors then revealed that Cohen had been under investigation for alleged criminal behavior for months, largely in connection to "his personal business dealings". The filing came in response to Cohen's effort to block prosecutors from reviewing documents seized in searches of his home and office on Monday.

Daniels, the adult film star whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford, is seeking to have a 2016 settlement agreement that her lawyer calls a "hush agreement" tossed out, in part, because Trump didn't sign it. Daniels received $130,000 under the agreement, facilitated by Cohen through a company, Essential Consultants, LLC, that he set up for the payment. "For example, Cohen has told at least one witness that he has only one client - President Trump", prosecutors wrote in a court filing.

When asked whether Trump is still associated with Cohen, Sanders said, "I am not sure..."

Cohen has admitted to paying off Stormy Daniels in the run-up to the 2016 USA election, but denies it was because of an alleged affair between the adult actress and Trump.

Mr Cohen had already notified the US District Court in Los Angeles on Thursday that he meant to request a stay in Ms Daniels' lawsuit against him and Mr Trump "on the grounds that an ongoing criminal investigation overlaps with the facts of this case".

If the lawsuit in Los Angeles federal court proceeds without delay, Cohen would be forced to choose between defending himself in deposition testimony or exercising his 5th Amendment rights, the lawyers told Judge S. James Otero.

However, the lack of a Czech stamp in Cohen's passport does not necessarily rule out the possibility that he traveled to the Czech Republic. They said Cohen had actually done "little to no legal work, and that zero emails were exchanged with President Trump".

If Cohen met with Russians and hackers in Prague as described in the dossier, it could be the most compelling evidence so far that the Russians and Trump campaign aides collaborated. Davidson also represented Playboy model Karen McDougal, who, like Daniels, is rumored to have had an affair with Trump.

Joanna Hendon, a new lawyer for Trump who appeared in court, said her law firm, Spears & Imes LLP, was engaged by Trump on Wednesday and she was "not prepared" to present her argument.

If that story sounds far-fetched to even a casual observer, the Federal Bureau of Investigation appears to agree: the agency's raid on Cohen was carried out in part to seize documents related to the Daniels payment.
