John Boehner Backs Marijuana Legalization

Cynthia Nixon's campaign for governor continues with her latest video about why she supports legalizing the use of recreational marijuana in NY. However, he does seem to be coming around on the issue, as earlier this year he commissioned a study on the issue.

"I believe it's time for NY to follow the lead of eight other states and DC, and legalize recreational marijuana", Nixon said in the video". "Sex and the City" actress and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon on Wednesday called for NY to legalize recreational marijuana to reduce racial inequality and raise millions of tax dollars.

Not only is Nixon right that marijuana should be decriminalized, both in NY and around the country, but we can't help agreeing with her assessment of the entire situation.

"In 2018, in a blue state like NY, marijuana shouldn't even be an issue", Nixon said.

Cuomo, after an event on Long Island, responded to the announcement.

These reconsiderations are based on many factors, including the increased belief in cannabis' health and medical value, as well as a change in thought from viewing the plant as a "gateway drug" towards its new perception as a possible "exit drug" from opioid addiction.

"80% of the New Yorkers who are arrested for marijuana are black or Latino, despite the fact that whites and people of color use marijuana at roughly the same rates", she said.

"We want to be known as a progressive town, not a stodgy, "just say no" town", Delgado says. Gov. Gary Herbert says "I don't support the current ballot initiative because it poses a host of unintended legal and law enforcement issues".

Nixon is slated to challenge Cuomo in the Democratic primary on September 13. There are numerous other patient groups in America whose quality of life has been dramatically improved by the state-sanctioned use of medical cannabis.

When it comes to thoughtful drug policies, states such as Washington are the ones pushing our country forward.
