A large numbers of people also visit local statues in all places to commemorate Ambedkar Jayanti by garlanding them.

A day before the 127th birth anniversary of Dalit icon and father of the Indian Constitution Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, another of his statue was found damaged in Gajna village in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh. He said, it is important to appreciate Dr Ambedkar's personality and message in all its dimensions, and not to compartmentalise, as people often do. The celebrations at Congress and BJP offices were reduced to a token where pictures of Dr Ambedkar were garlanded by leaders.

On April 12, the Ministry of Home Affairs had asked state governments to take precautionary steps to prevent violence or incidents of vandalism ahead of Ambedkar Jayanti.

The president later left for Mhow, about 30km from Indore, by a helicopter.

On the eve of the birth anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, April 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Dr Ambedkar National Memorial at 26, Alipur Road in Delhi - the place of his attainment of Mahaparinirvana on December 6 in 1956. He is popularly called as Baba Saheb Ambedkar, who campaigned against social discrimination against Dalit aka untouchables and also supported the rights of women and labourers. In a tweet, Adityanath said, "Babasaheb has made a number of provisions in the Constitution of India to remove social disparities and provide social justice to the oppressed sections of the society..."

But amid an undercurrent of anger in the community and allegations that the government was sidelining Dalits, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati said the BJP's overdrive to cultivate Dalits with the help of optics won't cut. He said the country remains indebted to Babasaheb for his efforts towards the making of our Constitution.
