On Tuesday, Modi will hold a bilateral summit with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven following which a number of agreements are expected to be signed.

However, some members of the Indian community have said that this time, there will be a "strong counter-protest" by pro-India groups to welcome Modi. Besides Modi, prime ministers of Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark and Iceland will attend the summit. He said, the partnership is based on democratic values and commitment to an open, inclusive and rule-based global order. The PM expressed confidence that visits to Sweden and United Kingdom would help in enhancing India's engagement with these countries. The visit aims to boost bilateral cooperation in several key areas, including trade and investment. According to Sweden's Ambassador to India Klas Molin, innovation is an important aspect of the India-Sweden relationship.

The bilateral leg of the United Kingdom tour begins with PM Modi's talks with Theresa May at 10 Downing Street on Wednesday morning, during which both leaders are expected to discuss a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including separatism, cross-border terrorism, visa and immigration. "Sweden is a valuable partner in our development initiatives", Modi had said in a departure statement last night.

In Sweden, Modi will also attend the India-Nordic Summit.

The huge crowd that had congregated at Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's event was taken by surprise when Modi, who was slated to present a pair of slippers to a tribal woman, bent down and helped the bare-footed woman wear her gifted footwear. "For India, Nordic countries are a potential source for clean technology, environmental solutions, port modernisation, cold chain, skill development, innovation etc.", said to Subrata Bhattacharjee, Joint Secretary (Central Europe) in the Ministry of External Affairs, at a media briefing here in connection with the upcoming visit. The India-UK CEOs Forum will also take place during this visit.

They also called upon the prime minister to reach out to the families of the victims in Unnao and Kathua and "seek their forgiveness on behalf of all of us", fast-track the prosecution of the perpetrators in the Kathua case and set up a court directed Special Investigative Team in the Unnao incident. On April 19-20, he will attend Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in London.

Modi and Lofven also travelled together in the same vehicle from the airport to the hotel, he said.
