Google Plans Gmail Redesign

Gmail has had the same user interface for quite some time, but it looks like Google is looking to change some things around.

After reading TechCrunch's story, a Twitter user reached out and provided the publication with the sketch shown above after reportedly seeing a Google employee playing with the new design on public transport.

In addition to a fresh coat of paint, the Gmail redesign includes new features - some of which Inbox already has.

The new version will offer support for "snoozing" your emails for a preset period of time, the same way you tell your alarm to shut up for nine minutes each morning. Gmail will also get Smart Reply, which uses an algorithm to generate email replies.

Some changes could be coming to Gmail. We need a bit more time to compose ourselves, so can't share anything yet-archive this for now, and we'll let you know when it's time to hit send.

The current incarnation of Gmail features separates your inbox into different categories, such as Social and Promotions. The family of Google apps will be better integrated with Google noting "easy access" to services like Calendar "from within Gmail". Overall the design looked a lot more like the mobile app, and it's reasonable to assume that Gmail itself will be updated in a similar way. Google is looking to test critical Chrome extensions, to ensure the new Gmail experience is compatible before it's widely available. It's a similar feature to Inbox, Google's other email client. According to Engadget, Google sent out an email to G Suite Administrators, the people who manage and control corporate or group email accounts running on Google's webmail platform.
