Gregg Popovich Message After Spurs' Loss: 'Go Warriors'

Kawhi Leonard

San Antonio Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich still sounded as if he had no clue whether Kawhi Leonard would ever rejoin the team for this year's playoffs when he was asked about it Sunday.

During pregame media availability, Popovich was asked if he had read the article. "Or let's say (the Lakers) somehow trade - Kawhi goes to the Spurs and says 'trade me to LA.' LA trades a whole bunch of their pieces to get Kawhi, they don't now need Paul George to get LeBron". So we can't do anything until that happens.

USA Today's Sam Amick wrote, "It was impossible not to wonder if there was a coded Kawhi Leonard message in there somewhere".

A comment made in a press conference after a loss to Golden State made one reporter ask San Antonio Spurs head coach if he was still enjoying his job amid what has been a hard season. Leonard's decision to rehab in the Big Apple was approved by the Spurs' medical staff, Charania reports, but Popovich still seems at least a little bit salty about it, considering the blunt talk about "Kawhi and his group".

The San Antonio Spurs are two games from an early vacation after losing Game 2 of their first-round playoff series against the Golden State Warriors.

Veterans like Manu Ginobili didn't even expect Leonard to come back at all this season, especially after holding a players-only meeting with him toward the end of the season, hoping to gain some clarity on his situation.

"The Washington Post cares about what's going on in San Antonio?". He'll likely be a first- or second-team All-NBA selection.
