Israeli soldiers cheer as sniper shoots unarmed Palestinian near the border fence in the besieged Gaza Strip

President Donald Trump's special envoy to the Israeli-Palestinian peace process Jason Greenblatt denounced Hamas on Wednesday and called on the group to disarm and relinquish control of the Gaza Strip to the Palestinian Authority. Israel, meanwhile, had a huge PR mess. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., said in an interview on CNN. Likewise, describing Israel's massacre as a "response" is a way of justifying it.

Global leaders surely can not remain silent much longer.

For the past two Fridays, tens of thousands of Palestinians have gathered near the border at five main sites across the Gaza Strip for what has been dubbed the "Great March of Return".

The Palestinians did not manage to infiltrate the territory of the state of Israel in vast numbers, and the Israeli deterrent was preserved.

Israel said its strikes were in response to an explosive device that reportedly detonated near an an army vehicle recently along the Gaza border. In February, four Israeli soldiers were injured when a bomb, which was disguised as flagpole, exploded near the border fence. Israel says it has only fired at "instigators" trying to carry out attacks. "It's simply a part of Hamas strategy".

Not only does the headline seriously muddy what happened, it also primes readers to blame Palestinians for being massacred, by saying their protests "elicited" the massacre. One video showed a young Palestinian man being shot in the back and killed by an Israeli shooter as he fled from the border.

As of publication time, the Israeli army had not responded to a request for comment from Middle East Eye on when such disciplinary proceedings would take place, nor on the kind of disciplinary measures typically implemented in similar cases.

Breaking the Silence, an Israeli veterans' organisation, claimed the video shows the reality of the situation on the ground.

The IDF released photos of 10 Palestinians killed in the previous day's clashes with information about their terrorist activity.

Israeli soldiers stand on an armoured personnel carrier (APC) outside the central Gaza Strip as they fire a 120 mm mortar shell towards Gaza July 31, 2014.

But an inquiry is precisely what the left wants.

The medics were in an area 200 meters away from the border fence, when the soldiers targeted them and their ambulance with live fire.

"Certainly the events of the past week and a half have been very troubling", she added. The Shin Bet, Israel's domestic intelligence service, told NPR that "all the relevant information about the matter is in the army's hands", but the Israeli army declined comment, as did the Defense Ministry, Prime Minister's Office, an Israeli defense body in charge of Gaza affairs and Lieberman's office. "We're doing everything we can to avoid hitting civilian populations".
