Jerry Jones: Cowboys don't expect to find 'pure' replacement for Bryant

One reason the Ravens weren't able to work with a one-year deal was because they needed a multi-year contract to work with their cap space, according to NFL Media. As we now know, the AFC North runners-up subsequently doubled back and signed restricted free agent Willie Snead to an offer sheet after having put him through a workout some weeks ago.

"We've already seen the Cowboys cut Dez Bryant, but that doesn't mean they're done making changes at wide receiver".

Bryant has expressed interest in playing for another NFC East team, including the New York Giants. But in Bryant's case, he doesn't want anything long term, veteran National Football League reporter Ed Werder said.

Dez Bryant might not be the end of the Dallas Cowboys' cuts at wide receiver, if you believe one national writer's take. It's more surprising that he would turn down said deal. Sources told ESPN he wants a one-year deal to parlay into a larger contract after next season. Whatever "big" means for Bryant, per Werder, if it's a one-year deal it would all go on a team's 2018 cap. Center Travis Frederick, the team's Walter Payton Man of the Year candidate in 2017, will announce the third-round pick on Friday.

It's an interesting strategy for Bryant too. There's a chance Bryant could have a resurgent season with his new team and be the top receiver in free agency next year.

Bryant isn't expected to sign until after this year's draft, which starts Thursday.
