Manchester City's Aguero relieved to avoid final-day drama

Agüero has been troubled by the problem in his left knee for several weeks and was a pale shadow of his normal self as City tumbled out of the Champions League, missing the first-leg defeat by Liverpool and only making the bench for the return fixture. City were actually confirmed as champions on a day they were not in action, as Manchester United lost to West Brom on Sunday.

Manager Pep Guardiola said at a news conference on Friday that he does not know if Aguero, who has scored 30 goals in all competitions this season, will be fit again this season. "It's been a pleasure to play with this team and be part of everything we've achieved this season".

Aguero, 29, joined City in 2011 and played a significant role in the two previous title-winning campaigns, in 2012 and 2014.

"For players like David Silva, Vincent Kompany and Yaya [Toure], it's even more special because it's another title we've won together", he said.

The striker who is now on 199 City goals, missed their 2-0 win at Stoke on March 12, as well as their 3-0 defeat in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie away to Liverpool on April 7.

"We're looking forward to the celebrations, but first we have five important games to play and we want to win them all".

Argentina will face Nigeria in their final Group D game at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russian Federation after battling Iceland and Croatia in their opening two games.

"But for now, let's enjoy the moment together with our fans and finish strongly".
