Farther south along the Mendocino County coast, authorities proceed to find associates of the Hart household, overlooking past 42, since an SUV left a dip away a towering sea bluff.

Carpenter said The FBI was working closely with local law enforcement to help determine what had happened.

The bodies of Jennifer and Sarah Hart were found March 26 inside the family's SUV, which had crashed at the rocky shoreline below a cliff in Mendocino County.

This June, 2014, file photo shows some of the Hart family at the annual celebration of "The Goonies" movie in Astoria, Ore.

The 100-foot drop killed the women, both 39, and their children Markis Hart, 19; Jeremiah Hart, 14; and Abigail Hart, 14.

The Harts moved last spring to Woodland, Washington, telling their real-estate broker "they needed a fresh start" after experiencing prejudice in Minnesota and too much media attention in OR after one child was pictured in a viral photo taken at a 2014 police-brutality protest.

Teams have scoured at least 12 miles of river bank, but the hunt for the family and their SUV has been hindered by the strong current and poor clarity, according to authorities. "The third child that has been recovered that has not been determined yet".

Investigators believe Jennifer Hart intentionally drove the SUV off the cliff.

Last August, soon after the Harts moved into their rural home, neighbors Bruce and Dana DeKalb said a child rang their doorbell, seeking sanctuary from abuse.

Sarah Hart pleaded guilty to charges of domestic assault in 2011, after police in Minnesota said she hit one of her daughters.

In 2013, a former friend of the Hart family told child welfare officials in OR in 2013 that Jennifer and Sarah Hart deprived the kids of food as punishment. "Until then, we are unable to speculate on the effect the alcohol may have played", he said.

Child Protective Services in Washington confirmed they opened an investigation into the Hart family on March 23.

In a statement on Thursday, police said they are continuing their efforts to search for the missing children. The arriving officer said it appeared two dogs also lived at the home but were not present. The woman had not been formally identified but Mendocino County Sheriff Thomas Allman earlier said the body was believed to have been one of the people in the vehicle.

The biological aunt of three of the six children adopted by Jennifer and Sarah Hart tried, and failed, to gain custody of the kids in Texas before they were placed in foster care and later adopted by the Harts. Hannah Hart, 16; Devonte Hart, 15; and Sierra Hart, 12, have not been found.
