Since August a year ago, more than half a million Rohingya have undertaken perilous journeys to Bangladesh to flee persecution and violence in Burma.

Since August, almost 700,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled a brutal military crackdown in Myanmar to neighbouring Bangladesh, the United Nations and aid agencies have said.

Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya fled Myanmar's Rakhine State to refugee camps in Bangladesh following violence in August which the United Nations has labelled ethnic cleansing. Those who fled said they left because of widespread rape, arson and killings.

A new United Nations (UN) report puts Myanmar's armed forces on a UN blacklist of government and rebel groups "credibly suspected" of carrying out assault and other acts of violence in conflict for the first time.

Reuters reported that Myanmar has denied almost all allegations, saying it waged a legitimate counter-insurgency operation.

The Rohingya are viewed as one of the most persecuted communities in the world.

In an effort to address the crisis, Bangladesh and Burma signed a deal in November to repatriate the Rohingya over the course of two years, beginning in January.

The Rohingya Blogger site said that when the plan did not work, the family returned to Myanmar, where they were portrayed as "returnees".

A man, two women and two children were also photographed getting medical checks and ID cards.

In a statement, the government said, five members of a Muslim family came to the Taungpyoletwea reception centre in Rakhine yesterday.

It is being said, the family members were issued National Verification Cards (NVCs) upon entering Myanmar.

Tens of thousands of Rohingya fled Myanmar by sea following an outbreak of sectarian violence in Rakhine in 2012.

Myanmar has said it is ready to receive the refugees, with one of its ministers this week telling refugees in Bangladesh to set aside the past and prepare to "go back to your own residences".

Although the Rohingya have lived in Burma for many generations, most Burmese consider them unwanted immigrants from neighboring Bangladesh and refer to them as "Bengalis", a term the Rohingya consider derogatory.

Many Rohingya refugees say they fear returning to a country where they saw their relatives murdered by soldiers and Buddhist vigilantes who drove them from their homes.

"Before proceeding with the repatriation of Rohingya, the Myanmar government must recognize and guarantee all their fundamental human rights", he told AFP. The Rohingya family had been living in a camp erected on a patch there [between the two countries].
