But UK opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn on Friday said that Britain should press for an independent UN-led investigation into the suspected chemical attack in Syria rather than wait for instructions from Trump on how to proceed.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement Tuesday that Trump will not attend the 8th Summit of the Americas in Lima, Peru or travel to Bogota, Colombia as planned.

"We hope that there will be no point of return - that the U.S. and their allies will refrain from military action against a sovereign state", Nebenzia told reporters late on Thursday.

Mr. Trump told reporters on Monday during a Cabinet meeting that the administration would be making a "major" decision on Syria within the next 24 to 48 hours.

The move Friday came as the U.S., France and Britain are in extensive consultations about launching a military strike on Syria in retaliation for suspected chemical weapons attacks.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says he has urged calm and efforts to restitute peace in Syria during separate calls this week with U.S. President Donald Trump and Russia's President Vladimir Putin.

Syria's military has repositioned some air assets to avoid missile strikes, U.S. officials told Reuters.

In April past year Trump ordered Tomahawk strikes on the Shayrat Airbase in response to a chemical weapons attack on rebel-held Khan Sheikhun.

Syria and Russian Federation have both denied the accusations, and the global chemical weapons watchdog said its team would begin its investigation on Saturday.

Syria and its ally, Russia, deny any such attack, which activists say killed more than 43 people last weekend.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, based in the Netherlands, announced it would send a fact-finding team to the site of the attack outside Damascus. Trump said in another tweet at the time.

If Britain, France and the United States take military action, "we would have no other choice expect applying Article 51 that gives us the right to defend ourselves", said Jaafari. "Some things are simply inexcusable, beyond the pale and in the worst interest of not just the chemical weapons convention but of civilization itself". That support means Russian Federation would nearly certainly veto any Security Council resolution authorizing force against Assad.

Russian Federation has said it deployed military police in Douma on Thursday after the town was taken over by Syrian government forces.

"Our strategy remains the same as a year ago", he said.

United Nations investigators have determined that Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad crossed that red line multiple times since then-using chemical weapons on civilians.

Lavrov said that "intelligence agencies of a state that is now striving to spearhead a Russo-phobic campaign were involved in that fabrication".

Western officials believe chlorine was used in Saturday's attack on Douma, the main city in the longtime rebel bastion of Eastern Ghouta, where the British government now estimates 75 people were killed.

"Meetings are ongoing, important decisions are being weighed even as we speak", she said.

A child is treated in a hospital in Douma, eastern Ghouta in Syria, after what a Syria medical relief group claims was a suspected chemical attack April, 7, 2018.

May spoke with US President Trump Thursday night about the worldwide response to Syria, and they "agreed that the Assad regime had established a pattern of unsafe behavior in relation to the use of chemical weapons", according to a Downing Street statement.
