Multiple fire departments fought a house fire at a two-story home Sunday in Fairview Heights. Authorities say the homeowner noticed the fire before smoke detectors were activated.

Alerted by a passer-by's call, firefighters responded at 2:35 p.m.to fire at a 1 1/2-story house on fire at 313 Harztell Road. Fire damage was contained to the rear of the structure's main floor and deck, while heavy smoke damage affected the rest of the structure.

Doyle said the house was not a total loss. The man's wife was found to have been visiting with her adult daughter.

No injuries were reported and the Red Cross will assist the family with temporary shelter.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, and Kelowna Fire Investigators will be at the scene investigating.

The name of the victim has not been released.
