President taunts Russia, says US military response coming in Syria

Last year, Trump launched a cruise missile strike against a Syrian air base in retaliation for a sarin attack the United Nations later pinned on Assad. The term was meant to contrast with "dumb" bombs lacking such technology.

Any U.S. strike is likely to involve the navy, given the risk to aircraft from Russian and Syrian air defense systems. "And while Russian Federation warns the United States not to retaliate in Syria, permanently removing Assad from the battle field would leave Moscow no choice but to begin serious negotiations on who comes next".

Syria also quickly hit back on Wednesday, describing Trump's threats as a "reckless escalation", state news agency SANA said.

A key issue being considered by US defense and intelligence agencies and war planners is the effectiveness of Syrian air defenses and the extent to which Russian Federation is helping to organize, and ultimately, direct Syrian air defense operations, according to two USA government sources.

"Global norms against chemical weapons reflect a particular abhorrence to their disproportionate harm to the eldest, the most infirm, and the youngest among us", the statement said. "Russian Federation needs us to help with their economy, something that would be very easy to do, and we need all nations to work together", he said Monday on Twitter.

Israel has sought to avoid direct involvement in Syria's civil war, but it acknowledges carrying out dozens of air strikes there to stop what it says are advanced arms deliveries to its enemy Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shiite group that is backing President Bashar al-Assad's regime.

Trump's administration has sought to show it is being tough on Russian Federation, with a series of economic and diplomatic actions, including new sanctions last week against government officials and oligarchs.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph has reported that British submarines are being moved within "missile range" of Syria- and that military action could start on Thursday night. We tell everything. We're sending troops. "Why can't we just be quiet and, if we attack at all, catch them by surprise?" "We have to be unpredictable".

Russian lawmakers said Moscow would view a USA airstrike on Syria as a war crime that could trigger a direct military clash between the two powers.

Syria referred to US threats of missile strikes as "reckless escalation", the state news agency said. He said that if airstrikes went ahead, they would target Syrian government chemical facilities. France is already involved in the US-led coalition created in 2014 to fight Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. Multiple IS attacks have targeted French soil, including one last month.

A Downing Street spokesperson said: "They agreed that reports of a chemical weapons attack in Syria were utterly reprehensible and if confirmed, represented further evidence of the Assad regime's appalling cruelty against its own people and total disregard for its legal obligations not to use these weapons". Officials suggested such evidence was lacking, or at least not yet at hand.

The FAA prohibition doesn't apply to flights of USA government agencies or contractors.

Moscow's United Nations ambassador Vassily Nebenzia accused Haley of seeking a vote to provide cover for a Western military strike on Assad, which now seems all the more likely.

Lt. Gen. Viktor Poznikhir of the General Staff of the Russian armed forces said on Wednesday that Russian military police will deploy to Douma on Thursday to ensure security of the town.

Theresa May is reportedly moving submarines towards Syria, and may authorise a military strike without a vote in Parliament.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons said Tuesday it would send "shortly" a fact-finding mission to Douma.

Mr. Trump canceled a planned trip to Latin America later this week in order to oversee an American response to Syria, according to a White House statement.

"We can not allow atrocities like that".

After a tense meeting with his generals, it was reported - though not publicly articulated - that USA troops, around 2,000, would remain in Syria for maybe six months.
