2018 NBA Playoffs: Washington Wizards vs. Toronto Raptors Preview And Prediction

The Raptors proved that Saturday night when they opened the post-season with a solid 114-106 victory over the Washington Wizards, ending a woeful Game 1 losing streak that had stretched back to 2001 - and one the team had grown tired of hearing about.

TORONTO (AP) - For the first time in nearly 17 years, the Toronto Raptors are off to a winning start in a playoff series.

The Wizards had memorably swept the Raptors out of the playoffs in the first round back in 2015, then the No. 5 seed to Toronto's No. 4.

Both squads are highly talented, and both bring plenty of emotion to the table.

Washington led at the half, 59-55.

Raptors' top stars Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan appeared good, scoring 12 and 17 respectively, but it's other players that made the difference.

"That sequence [after the flagrant] was big for us to get the lead back and get a little momentum, a little push", said Lowry.

Toronto put its streak in the past by hitting 16 of 30 3-point attempts, a team record for a postseason game. "We have to play it like a Game 7". VanVleet was injured in Wednesday's regular season finale.

Toronto held just a slim 86-85 lead going into the final quarter.

Washington led 91-88 when Scott was called for a flagrant foul after using his elbow to knock Lowry down early in the fourth. "They're not a normal eight seed". "He's getting much better but just not going to go (in Game 1)". Miles had four, while Ibaka and Wright hit three apiece.

"They are the No. 1 seed for a reason", Wizards coach Scott Brooks said. "It's the same role they played all year. but as long as those guys are producing the way they are, why should we change our rotation?" "Serge Ibaka is one of the best, if not the best, big man shooter in the league". But the Raptors' double-digit lead was shortlived and they led 28-23 after one.

The teams will compete in Game 2 in Toronto before the series moves to Washington.
