Rare's Sea of Thieves Roadmap Promises A Lot Of Content

Sea of Thieves content updates

Sea of Thieves content updates

Following the release of The Hungering Deep, Sea of Thieves will then be hosting weekly events that will run until the next content update.

Also in May, the game will see the introduction of weekly events, where various new mechanics to play around with as well as goals to achieve will be rotating on a weekly basis.

Executive Producer Joe Neate and Design Director Mike Chapman would not go into specifics but explained a "new AI threat" will be introduced to the game along with a new item, new unlocks, and new ways to bring crews together in the game world. Rare says that what they're trying to do with this new AI threat is to make players interact with the game differently, trying to bring crews together. Cursed Sails will feature a brand new ship and Forsaken Shores will open a new location in the world to explore.

It is slated to arrive in May, and five more content updates are in the plan for 2018.

In it, they discuss the two content packs that'll follow The Hungering Deep, Cursed Sails and Forsaken Shores. The former will introduce a new ship type, the latter will introduce a new part of the world with new AI threats unique to that area of the world. We will also be introducing a number of new mechanics that will assist players on this adventure, and there will be unique rewards that players can earn as part of this event. Similar to The Hungering Deep, both of these updates will also include new gameplay mechanics for players, new AI threats to challenge and new unique rewards to claim. Unfortunately, new features such as Pets and Ship Captaincy have now been delayed, but they're still in the pipeline.

The one thing Rare has constantly reiterated is that players are going to shape how Sea of Thieves continues to grow, it's clearly going to be a community focused project so be vocal about what you're after. "Expect our plans to continue to be fluid, but always with the goals listed above as our guiding principles".

What do you think about the upcoming content updates for Sea of Thieves?
