The parents made the call in interviews with PREMIUM TIMES on the occasion of fourth year anniversary since the girls were abducted by the terror group.

Some Dapchi parents were in Chibok on Saturday in a show of solidarity.

In February, one faction kidnapped more than 100 schoolgirls from the town of Dapchi, previously untouched by the war.

Two of the girls, Amina Nkeki and Salomi Pogu, had earlier escaped from captivity and was later found in the bush by soldiers.

While urging intensified efforts towards providing adequate security to schools in the country, Dogara in a statement from his office called on President Muhammadu Buhari to step up action that would lead to the rescue of the girls.

"Today, FOUR years ago, 219 girls were abducted from a school in Chibok, Borno State".

Boko Haram militants have continued to target children in campaigns of violence that have seen over a thousand children abducted and millions others displaced in Nigeria's northeast, UNICEF said on Friday.

In October 2016, Nigerian officials announce the release of 21 of the girls following talks between the government and Boko Haram, brokered by Switzerland and the International Committee of the Red Cross. The group refused to release Leah Sharibu account of her not being a Muslim and being unwilling to denounce her Christian faith. "What is the fate of the remaining 112 schoolgirls that are still remaining in captivity", asked Yakubu Nkeki, leader of the Chibok parents.

She became pregnant and "now lives with her young son in an IDP (displaced persons) camp, where she has struggled to integrate with the other women due to language barriers and the stigma of being a "Boko Haram wife", UNICEF said.

Buhari said the return of so many students from Dapchi and Chibok "should give confidence that all hope is not lost" and showed the government was "doing its very best".

The statement read thus: "It is unfortunate that four years after, all of our daughters have still not been accounted for".

In a statement released on the eve of the April 14, fourth anniversary of the kidnap of over 200 schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno State, the United Nations agency also said more than 1,000 children had been abducted and 1,400 schools destroyed by the terrorists in the region since 2013.

According to the organisers, all invitation were duly sent to both state and federal government officials as well as the local government council of Chibok to attend the commemoration service but the event turned out poorly attended.
