The Blues came back from 2-0 down to beat Southampton at the weekend.

Ran a really poor line tracking Ryan Bertrand and trying to get back into position for Dusan Tadic's first-half goal but was otherwise sound enough defensively.

Chelsea looked destined to suffer a sixth defeat from nine league outings when Jan Bednarek put Saints 2-0 up after an hour, but Antonio Conte's decision to throw Giroud on from the bench proved a masterstroke, the visitors scoring three times in eight minutes.

Giroud hailed his first two league goals for Chelsea and then paid tribute to the character of Antonio Conte's men. This is the best possible way for a player to show he is a fantastic professional.

The victory keeps alive fifth-place Chelsea's slim hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League with seven points now separating the champions from Tottenham and Liverpool above them.

It remains to be seen if he would be tempted by a return to the Stamford Bridge, though the chance to prove himself in the Premier League again, should Chelsea be unable to land their other top targets, will nearly certainly give him plenty to deliberate. I was very disappointed but we must be pleased by the second half. "I think we didn't show great spirit, great desire, great fight for a good result".

The France striker, who joined from Arsenal in January, then completed the sensational comeback 12 minutes from time, finding the bottom-right corner from 14 yards to secure all three points, and he acknowledged he has been itching to get off the mark.

The Blues put up an incredible fightback against the Saints to salvage a victory after going two goals in the first half.

"I've been through some difficulties in my career, but I always try to come back stronger and it happened today", said Giroud.

Long nearly doubled Southampton's lead early in the second period when he turned Andres Christensen and Gary Cahill before his mishit effort almost looped over Courtois, who scrambled to turn the ball behind.

"They've taken blows all year, they can't start feeling sorry for themselves now, it's gone beyond that", said Hughes. I'm the first person to take my responsibility.

"I used to say that football is an everlasting new beginning".
