US President Trump announces strikes on Syria

In announcing the attack Trump said the USA was prepared "to sustain a response" until the Syrian regime ends its use of chemical weapons, but also said that America does not plan to stay in the country indefinitely. He added that a combined military operation by the USA, the United Kingdom and France is already underway in Syria.

Trump says that last Saturday, Syrian President Bashar Assad deployed chemical weapons in what was a "significant escalation in a pattern of chemical weapons use by that very awful regime".

However, both Russian Federation and Syria deny any claims that a chemical weapons attack occurred in Duomo, the rebel-held area that plans to topple the Syrian Government.

Syria has said overnight military strikes by the US, UK and France following a suspected chemical attack will "inflame tensions in the world".

Both SAMS and the Syrian Civil Defense are calling on the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to investigate what they refer to as a "heinous chemical attack".

President Trump hints at re-entering the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement, pending a new deal.

The Trump administration "could walk right back in with the exact same deal from previous year that they walked out of, and claim victory", said Smith, who noted that the government of Abe "has been continuously and quietly encouraging the US administration to take another look" at the pact. He described the main aim as establishing "a strong deterrent" against chemical weapons use.

Loud explosions ripped through Syria's capital early Saturday and the sky turned orange as Syrian air defense units fired surface-to-air missiles in response to joint airstrikes by the United States, France and Britain. If the USA does take part, the pact would encompass 40 percent of global production and one-third of world trade.

It said three civilians were wounded in the Homs attacks.

Asked why the president had acted now, given the Assad government is alleged to have used chemical gas at least 50 times, administration officials said they believed there was "incontrovertible evidence" that chemical weapons had been deployed.

"Russia must decide if it will continue down this dark path, or if it will join with civilized nations as a force for stability and peace", Trump said.

In the midst of the chaos and Trump's numerous, reactionary tweets, he may have been trying to set American minds at ease when he tweeted just a minute later at 3:48 a.m., despite everything that's happening, the atmosphere in the White House is "very calm".

Trump had remained sharply critical of the pact and said that he would instead negotiate trade agreements one on one, a tactic he says gives the United States better leverage over its trading partners.

Taro Aso, Japan's finance minister and deputy prime minister said that "if the news is true, we would welcome it". Some even pointed out that Trump tweeted last week about taking all USA troops out of the country.

"I want to emphasize that these strikes are directed at the Syrian regime", he said.

Immediately after the attack, Syrian state TV, broadcasting live from the landmark Omayyad Square, showed crowds of civilians mixing with men in uniform, including vehicles with flags.

The Trump administration says it has ordered the Agriculture Department to create a program to help farmers hurt by trade. Last April, he ordered the strike of almost 60 Tomahawk missiles that destroyed a Syrian air base.

The bill that Trump signed Friday is named for her. But other experts say that more long-term involvement in Syria would require Congressional approval.
