Watchdog confirms United Kingdom findings in Russian ex-spy case

Yulia Skripal daughter of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal was released from hospital on Tuesday after recovering

Yulia Skripal daughter of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal was released from hospital on Tuesday after recovering

She added that she would have more to say later, but until then,"no-one speaks for me, or for my father".

In her latest statement, Ms Skripal said: "I have access to friends and family, and I have been made aware of my specific contacts at the Russian embassy who have kindly offered me their assistance in any way they can".

Sergei Skripal and his daughter was poisoned with Novichok of a "high purity", the Organisation for the Protection of Chemical Weapons said on Thursday.

Skripal said that she finds herself with a "totally different life" than the one she had before the March 4 poisoning in southwest England.

The chemical weapons watchdog has confirmed the UK's claims that the Skripals were attacked with a nerve agent, but did not identify the origin.

It has denied possessing the nerve agent Britain says was used while Russian President Vladimir Putin has said it was nonsense to think that Moscow would have poisoned Skripal and his daughter.

The OPCW worked both lanes and came to the same conclusion in each - that Novichok was used to "severely injure []" the Skripals and one police officer who attempted to help them.

"Today the global chemical weapons watchdog have confirmed the findings of the United Kingdom relating to the identity of the toxic chemical used in the attempted assassination of Skripal and his daughter, and which also resulted in the hospitalisation of a British police officer". Russian Federation vehemently denies any involvement and has responded by expelling the same number of diplomats.

This provoked the Russian embassy in London to suggest she had been either "isolated" or "abducted" against her will: "We congratulate Yulia Skripal on her recovery".

And she thanked her cousin Viktoria Skripal - who has been speaking out on Russian state TV about the attack - for her concern, but asked her not to come visit or try to get in contact.

If she is well enough, she is likely to be extensively questioned by British security officials and police about her recollection of events leading up to her poisoning.

The Russian government has denied any involvement in the attack.

"In the interest of transparency, and because unlike the Russians we have nothing to hide", Johnson added, "we have asked the OPCW to publish the executive summary for all to see and to circulate the full report to all state parties of the OPCW, including Russia".

The incident sparked an worldwide diplomatic crisis when many Western countries began expelling Russian diplomats from their countries. So far, we doubt it much.

"As before, we would like to make sure that the statement really belongs to Yulia". In retaliation to the UK's steps, Russian Federation expelled 23 British diplomats, closed the British consulate general in the city of St. Petersburg, while the British Council had to shut down its operations in Russian Federation.

They also called on United Kingdom officials to "urgently provide evidence" that Skripal was not deprived of her freedom.
