But it will furnish mountains of ammunition for combatants on all sides.

When asked if he would still release the letter if he knew that doing so would help elect Donald Trump, Comey said, "I would". Comey says that "because he never stops talking", Trump "pulls all those present into a silent circle of assent".

One, he attacks Comey personally, again calling him a "slime ball".

In "A Higher Loyalty", Comey says he came into a post-election Oval Office sit-down with Obama with a bad case of the jitters.

Trump also asked why the Democratic National Committee did not give its email server to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, or why the Federal Bureau of Investigation didn't seize it after it was hacked by Russians during the presidential campaign.

Eleven months after the controversial dismissal from his position, Comey's scathing retort paints President Trump as a liar and a mobster-like figure.

U.S. President Donald Trump looks up during a meeting about healthcare at the White House in Washington, U.S., March 13, 2017.

In his tweets Sunday, Trump said "big questions" aren't answered in Comey's book, and repeats accusations about the FBI's impartiality under Comey.

"A Higher Loyalty" won't be formally released until next week, but explosive details have already spilled out into the media.

His silly theory is based on the findings contained in a fraudulent, debunked dossier pieced together during the 2016 presidential election at the behest of failed Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and the Democrat National Committee. On Fox News this week, lawyer and Fox News contributor Joseph diGenova referred to Comey as "the dirtiest cop in America." He leaked CLASSIFIED information, for which he should be prosecuted. Comey asks his readers.

Comey, who stands 6 feet 8 inches, confesses to lying about a college basketball career. Other people might have had a different view. The important thing was not to allow a lie to live on, to grow, to become a habit.

Todd also asked Ryan if he agreed with Trump's description of Comey as a "slimeball".

The allegation in Trump's tweets about Comey leaking classified information appears to be a reference to Comey passing along to a friend a memo about his interactions after Trump fired him. "No way." He also allegedly ridiculed the very notion that he would ever hire a prostitute: "Can you imagine me, hookers?"

Clinton herself has cited Comey's handling of the email probe as a reason she lost the election.

Copies of the book were first obtained by news outlets on Thursday.

Unlike Michael Wolff's "Fire & Fury", which caught the White House unawares when it was published in January, the administration had weeks to polish its rebuttal rhetoric for Comey's book.
