Investigators searching for a missing Indian family in Northern California found the body of a 12-year-old boy - the last of four members who died after their auto plunged into the rain-swollen Eel river. Relatives of the Thottapilly family positively identified the items as belongings of their family members, authorities said. The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said the initial discovery was made on Sunday, as searchers were scouring the Eel River in Legget, California.

Sandeep Thottapilly and family. The body "appears to be that of an African American Female", but age and identity could not be determined, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said.

A team on a boat smelled gasoline about half a mile (1 kilometer) downstream from where the crash was reported and found the SUV.

A woman's body, later positively identified as Soumya Thottapilly, 38, was found late last week.

And authorities have said social services officials in OR contacted the West Linn Police Department about the family in 2013 while they were living in the area. The vehicle was encased in a large amount of sediment from the river current, and it took hours for the auto to be towed out of the water. The Klamath River and a string of parks lie along Highway 101, north of where motorists saw the SUV fall into the river.

In March, a married lesbian couple, Jennifer and Sarah Hart, and their six adopted children were presumed dead after their SUV went over a cliff into the ocean in Mendocino County, California. About 6:30 pm a tow truck was able to partially pull the vehicle out and two bodies were found inside it.

The Thottapilly family - Sandeep, Soumya, their daughter Saachi and their 12-year-old son Siddhant - were traveling from Portland, Oregon, to San Jose when they "suddenly stopped communicating with family in Valencia" on April 5. The river was swollen from recent storms and officials had to wait several days for it to recede.
