ABC Cancels ‘Roseanne’ Over Valerie Jarrett Tweet

Barr later claimed the comment was a'joke when she was called out on Twitter by CNN reporter Andrew Kaczynski

Scarborough wrote, "Hey @ABC, Roseanne Barr compared Valerie Jarrett to an ape".

Comedian Roseanne Barr took yet another cue from her president and unleashed an unhinged, racist Twitter rant, but this time she targeted former Obama Administration official, Valerie Jarrett.

"There was only one thing to do here", Disney CEO Robert Iger added on Twitter, "and that was the right thing".

Earlier on Tuesday, Barr tweeted an apology to Chelsea Clinton - the daughter of former US President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton - after claiming she was married to a relative of billionaire investor George Soros.

Shortly before ABC announced it was canceling "Roseanne", consulting producer and comedienne Wanda Sykes said on Twitter she would not be returning to the series.

Other stars, including Rosie O'Donnell, Patricia Arquette and Don Cheadle, were also quick to react to Barr's tweet about Jarrett. It's likely that this comment in particular inspired her decision to leave the show, though it's important to note that Jarrett also has no connection to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Barr's cast mate Sara Gilbert posted on Twitter on Tuesday that the cancellation was "incredibly sad and difficult".

An outspoken supporter of Israel, Barr said at year's Jerusalem Post Conference in NY: "I want to move to Israel and run for prime minister", she told interviewer Dana Weiss.

In March, ABC had renewed "Roseanne" for a 13-episode second season.

Tarlov then pointed out Barr's history of past racist "jokes", including a photo she posted of herself wearing a Hitler mustache while preparing to bake a set of gingerbread cookies that she had labeled as Jews.

Barr later walked back her comments, calling them a "joke", but the damage has already been done.

But ABC had said that it expected the show, when it returned next fall, to tone down political comedy. I should have known better. "My joke was in bad taste". That made the show popular with conservative viewers, and Trump himself suggested the character's backing had a lot to do with the show's success.
