Maharashtra stood at the second place behind Jharkhand in the Swachh Survekshan 2018, while Chhattisgarh was at the third position in the category of "best-performing states".

Previous year also, Indore and Bhopal topped the chart by figuring in the first and the second position among the cleanest cities in the country. Jharkhand's Ranchi was the best state capital as per citizen's feedback, while Goa's Panaji had the best innovation and practices. There's no doubt in the fact that our city lovely Chandigarh is also one of the cleanest city in the country as per 2018 survey by bagging the 3rd spot.

Results for the survey were decided on the basis of indicators such as open defecation free (ODF) status, along with waste management and other civic issues that impact the lives of everyday citizens living in the concerned cities.

The members of Arivu organisation celebrated the announcement of Mysuru being adjudged "India's Cleanest Medium City" in the Swachh Sarvekshan 2018. State ranking was introduced in this year's survey, which was conducted between January 4 and March 10. It was expected that Chandigarh will get a good rank in this Swachh Survekshan as the city had done a lot to regain its spot in the top cleanest cities of India from the past couple of years.

The names of the worst performing cities would be announced on the day the awards would be presented, Puri said.

The 2018 survey covered 4,203 such areas. The total number of interactions on Swachchhata app by citizens were around 1.18 crore. As part of their visit, the team inspected the progress of various development activities being conducted by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Citizen feedback was also given notable consideration at the time of the resultant formulation.

In 2016, the Swachchh Survekshan was conducted in 73 cities having a population of 10 lakh or more and capital city of States/UTs and Mysore had bagged the award of being the cleanest city of India.

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also congratulated and thanked residents for their efforts in keeping the city clean.
