Bahrain sees 'no glimmer of hope' for ending Qatar crisis soon

Imports into Qatar plunged about 40 percent from 2016 in the initial weeks of the embargo, but they have since mostly returned to normal as Doha has found new sources of products in countries such as Turkey, and developed new shipping routes through places such as Oman, according to a Reuters report. The government will try and stop products such as Saudi dairy goods from entering Qatar through a third country.

The countries subsequently imposed a trade and diplomatic boycott on Qatar, which rejects the charges and says the countries are seeking regime change in Doha. Several African countries have also broken ties with Qatar in support of Saudi-let quartet.

Bahrain's Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed said terrorist activities have decreased in his country since four Arab countries cut ties with Qatar previous year.

Meanwhile Qatar has announced that it will ban products originating from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bahrain.

Qatar at once turned to countries such as Turkey for help in replacing supplies such as food along with other important imports that were suddenly cut off.

The government's directive on Saturday is meant to "find new suppliers of the variety of goods impacted" by the blockade, a statement said.

"Qatar has no option but to diversify its economy", Qatari Minister of Development Planning and Statistics Dr. Saleh Mohamed Salem al-Nabit said.

Bahrain's foreign minister said Qatar was prolonging the crisis by taking its case to Western allies, instead of dealing with it inside the Gulf Arab bloc.

"We are pleased to host dialogues that will create jobs and investment opportunities for both countries", Mohammed Barakat of the US-Qatar Business Council said.

"We were expecting from the beginning of the crisis with Qatar that the emir of Qatar would go to Saudi [Arabia] but this did not happen", he told the pan-Arab newspaper. Iranian export to Qatar has grown ten folds.
