BlackBerry KEY2 teased ahead of June 7 announcement

Blackberry Mobile made this announcement on its official Twitter account by posting an image that reads "An Icon Reborn".

Only few days ago we saw the news that BlackBerry KEY2 AKA Athena had received its WiFi and Bluetooth certification and now BlackBerry has announced that the phone is ready and will launch on June 7 at an event in NY. The phone will be announced in NY at 10 AM ET.

The BlackBerry KEY2 will succeed KEYone and as per its Twitter post, the company will host a launch event of 7 June at 10 am EST (that is around 1930 hours IST) in NY to officially launch its latest smartphone. As of now, there is no clarity on what BlackBerry will pack in the KEYone successor, but there is no doubt that it will have a physical keyboard, which was a massive part of the company's success in its heydays. A handset, under the codename "Athena" had appeared on a Chinese certification site named TENAA last month. The TENAA listing had revealed several specifications and other details of the alleged BlackBerry KEY2. The image also shows the launch date of KEY2, which is June 7, 2018. This is contrary to the back panel on the BlackBerry KEYone that didn't have a textured design above the rear camera setup.

Further, BlackBerry KEY2 is rumoured to come with dual cameras. There are speculations that KEY2 will support 4G LTE and dual-SIM support.

As far as rumors are concerned, the KEY2 is said to feature a 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB-C port for charging, but otherwise we don't know anything else about the upcoming smartphone. The BlackBerry Key2 is a successor to last year's BlackBerry KeyOne that boasts premium build, Android OS out-of-the-box, and the standard BlackBerry QWERTY keyboard.
