Boro v Ipswich- Post-match reaction & 2nd leg debate

"The boys have been superb and we're off to Wembley, one more to go".

Aston Villa beat Middlesbrough 1-0 on aggregate after a 0-0 draw at Villa Park on Tuesday (May 15) to seal their place in the Championship playoff final where they will meet Fulham.

Each side is looking to return to the top flight at the first time of asking, both having suffered Premier League relegation in the 2015-16 season. "They've got some good players but, then again, so have we", he said.

It's Villa who hold the advantage after a 1-0 away win in the first leg, Mile Jedinak's header enough for Steve Bruce's side to bring a slender lead back to Villa Park.

At the heart of that defence was former Chelsea and England centre back John Terry who joined the club a year ago on a free transfer and whose appointment as captain appears to have had a significant impact.

"Let's not get too excited, there's still one more to go".

Villa came close through Lewis Grabban and Conor Hourihane and were comfortable against a poor Boro side. Stewart Downing fired the subsequent freekick off the woodwork but Middlesborough fans were furious Johnstone was not sent off. Villa had made three subs at the time so a red card would have forced an outfield player to play in goals.

Meanwhile, Middlesbrough's Daniel Ayala came off in the second half on Saturday with a knee injury and misses out, so Tony Pulis has opted to start the young Dael Fry in defence in his stead.

"It's a hard season, it's a long season but they've been the third and fourth best teams in the league so you have to take it on the chin".

As quoted by the media outlet, the Villa boss said: "I've continued to say this about Alan Hutton".
