The EU is considering a ban on several common plastic products

There are battles that are fought even if y are lost in advance.

A spokesperson for the European Commission told The Brussels Times that nearly 100 items of single-use plastics is not covered by the proposal, such as diapers and medical items.

The European Commission plans to ban a number of plastic disposable products and to penalize member countries of the EU for plastic trash that is not recyclable, reports DW.

According to the Commission, the new proposals could have major economic and environmental benefits. "Plastic waste ends up in our air, our soil, our oceans and our food", warned vice President Frans Timmermans.

That commitment will remove more than 5 million straws and 20 million plastic water bottles per year.

The European Commission presented a strategy on plastic. As well as the aforementioned items, the list includes plastic plates, drink stirrers, sticks for balloons and single-use plastic drinks containers. Manufacturers have to use now in their production of alternative, biodegradable materials. What's more, microplastics take thousands of years to degrade, meaning the plastic trash that's blowing around on the street or landing in lakes, rivers and oceans will remain there for some time. What happens next?

The European Union (EU) is proposing a ban on straws and other single-use plastics to help protect marine life. Producers of plastic fishing gear will be required to cover the costs of waste collection from port reception facilities and its transport and treatment.

The Commission has supported broad citizen support to reduce presence of plastic that Eurobarometer collects. The European Commission urged not to delay it. The conclusion was that 84% of waste found was plastic.

Recent research published in Scientific Reports estimates that a waste patch three times the size of France containing at least 79,000 tonnes of plastic debris is afloat between California, on the USA west coast, and Hawaii, in the central Pacific Ocean. Getting an idea of your volume is complicated.

The Rethink Plastic Alliance is basically an association of environmental organizations, called the proposals "a leap forward in tackling plastic pollution" but criticized some perceived shortcomings. Among or issues, by growth of its projected volume for coming decades. "We will ban some of these items, and substitute them with cleaner alternatives so people can still use their favourite products".
