YouTube Premium is the new You Tube Red will be available soon

It will debut in the US, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and South Korea before expanding to 14 other countries. First of all, it is launching a new music streaming service, YouTube Music on Tuesday, May 22.

The past several months have been rife with rumors about Google's plans to revamp its music service as a way to compete more aggressively with Spotify and Apple Music, now the towering figures of music streaming.

YouTube Music Premium can be subscribed for $9.99, which needs to be paid other than YouTube Premium for ad-free music, background listening and downloads. All this is available along with an extensive database of remixes, live performances, covers and music videos existing exclusive on YouTube.

YouTube never reveals just how many people use YouTube Music or YouTube Red, but its services have largely operated behind the dominance of Spotify, which boasts 75 million paying users, and Apple Music, which is steadily catching Spotify's pace in terms of growth.

The launch of YouTube Music and rebranding of YouTube Red will hopefully provide some much-needed clarity and cohesion to Google's streaming strategy.

YouTube remains the biggest video site on the internet, with over 1.8 billion accounts watching each month. YouTube Music isn't out to replace it.

YouTube Music will be "largely devoid of video", according to CNET, which has seen the redesigned YouTube Music app in action.

In the Battle for Online Music, YouTube Enters a Crowded Field

In a briefing this week, the company promised it will be closing the gaps between Play Music and YouTube Red over the next month, so Google Play Music users don't lose features they've grown accustomed to.

Next, what will happen to Google Play Music?

YouTube Red Becomes YouTube Premium! It will also allow background play and downloads of videos available across YouTube's huge library. (If you're an existing YouTube Red subscriber, your rate will remain $US9.99, per Pitchfork.) YouTube Premium will include access to YouTube Music Premium.

YouTube plans to continue expansion during 2018.

They wish to brand YouTube as the users' one-stop destination for all sorts of digital entertainment, and a very strong step has been taken in the regard.

YouTube music will arrive in countries where YouTube red is available from May 22nd.

Oh, and speaking of YouTube Red: it's gone now.
