LG V35 ThinQ hands-on: Modern brains but last year’s looks

Project Fi may have many fans-after all, it gives you service across three U.S. carriers plus global roaming at an affordable pay-as-you-go rate-but one thing subscribers don't enjoy is the lack of selection when it comes to phones. The G7 is water resistant, has a 6.1-inch screen, dual rear cameras (including a wide-angle lens) and the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset. The G7 ThinQ has a display notch, though.

The LG V35 ThinQ will first be making its way through the U.S. in June, followed by a limited global release in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. That's just like the G7, and the V35 felt just as fast as rival devices. Like almost every other premium smartphone released this year, the V35 ThinQ packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, this time with 6GB of RAM. The G7 makes do with 4GB, the same as the LG V30.

The V35 keeps the 6” FullVision OLED display with HDR10 support.

LG hasn't announced a price for the V35 yet, but says it "will roll out in North America this summer". On the front of the phone, you'll find an 8-MP selfie cam. Instead, the number two carrier wanted an upgraded OLED device that would help enhance the viewing experience of its content. So it wouldn't be surprising to see the V35 ThinQ offer better battery life than the G7 ThinQ, despite the very similar specs under-the-hood.

But the real standout feature in the LG V35 ThinQ is the camera's smarts.

As with other LG phones, the V35 puts an emphasis on audio quality, supporting DTS:X Virtual Surround Sound. And of course, it contains the 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC that makes the 3.5mm audio jack legendary.

Starting at the low-end, the Moto G6 is an excellent little device. The phone arrives in stores on June 8.

LG officially announced the V35 ThinQ, it's second flagship smartphone this year. While Google isn't offering any major outright discount for the LG phones, those who pre-order one will get a $50 Fi credit.
