Loved Ones Remember A Legend In the Full Whitney Trailer

Whitney Houston

Whitney Houston

Miramax and Roadside Attractions have revealed the new full trailer for Whitney, the documentary about legendary chart-topping singer and actress Whitney Houston (The Bodyguard, Waiting to Exhale). The documentary feature Whitney is an intimate, unflinching portrait of Houston and her family that probes beyond familiar tabloid headlines and sheds new light on the spellbinding trajectory of Houston's life. Macdonald has considerably more access to Houston's family and friends than other documentarians have had, but some topics are clearly still hard for them to discuss: While on camera, ex-husband Bobby Brown refuses to talk about Houston's late-in-life drug problems, and though the singer's friends confirm that she was romantically involved with her assistant Robyn Crawford, Houston's family members so loathe Crawford that they only will call her an evil opportunist.

Houston's brother Gary Garland says in the film that "There were always a lot of secrets". There are also allegations discussed in the film that Houston's father and accountant John Houston was stealing earnings from her. "If you don't resolve and deal with things, they never go away".

"Bobby was jealous", an interviewee recalls.

"He wanted to be on the stage. And eventually, she stepped down to lift him up". In his interview clip, Reid says, "I never knew there was any addiction". Reid makes a bold statement in the trailer saying he wasn't aware of Houston's drug use.

And, of course, Houston's own voice - specifically, her memorable 1991 performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Super Bowl XXV - is showcased in the trailer.

This one has the Houston clan's blessing, which cuts two ways.

Whitney Houston broke more music industry records than any other female singer in history.

The film premieres in Cannes tonight, Wednesday night.

The Whitney Houston documentary, Whitney, won't hit screens until July 6, but judging from the hot-off-the-press trailer, it will be worth the wait.
