Los Angeles Times: Melania Trump Had An Embolization To Treat A Kidney Condition.

On Monday, May 14, we learned on NBC's Today that Melania Trump underwent a surgical procedure for a benign kidney health problem.

She continued, "Mrs. Trump is at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and will likely remain there for the duration of the week".

Mrs. Trump, who has been gradually raising her profile as first lady, recently hosted her first state dinner and launched a public awareness campaign to help children. "Thank you for so much love and support!" the president said in a Twitter posting on Tuesday.

The president tweeted shortly before arriving at Walter Reed outside Washington, saying it was a "successful procedure", describing his wife as being "in good spirits" and offering his thanks "to all of the well-wishers!"

The notoriously private first lady underwent the procedure Monday with no leaks beforehand from her small, close-knit East Wing staff.

Experts told POLITICO that the procedure is typically used to staunch blood flow to a part of the body to stop a bleeding blood vessel or kill a non-cancerous growth.

President Donald Trump is expected to visit his wife in hospital, a White House official added.

The Slovenia-born former model married Trump in 2005.

He also spent time with her at the hospital on Monday evening after she had been treated. They have a 12-year-old son, Barron.

"She may have been having some back pain or blood in the urine, but most likely nothing serious", Saphier said.

Last month, she took the lead in planning the first state dinner of the Trump administration, welcoming French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, to celebrate almost 250 years of U.S.
