Serkis stars in and directs Mowgli, which features motion capture performances from a star-studded cast, including Christian Bale (Bagheera), Cate Blanchett (Kaa) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Shere Khan).

On the human side, Matthew Rhys is Lockwood; Freida Pinto is Messua; and young actor Rohan Chand will play Mowgli, the boy raised by wolves. The trailer then shifts to Mowgli with his real friends - the animals - because let's face it, Mowgli is a man-cub, but he belongs in the jungle. Serkis will also play the part of Baloo the bear in the film. Serkis, who was supposed to make his directorial debut with the film, made (and released) another while effects were being worked on.

The Warner Brother studio's version of the book is darker than the Disney movie which was released in 2016 and generated a business of more than $966 million at the box office.

The cast is also filled with the talents of Naomi Harris, Freida Pinto, Eddie Marsan, and the titular character Mowgli is played by the wonderful Rohan Chand.

There's none of the light comic tone of "The Jungle Book", which featured a winning Bill Murray as Baloo the Bear belting out "The Bare Necessities".

Mowgli looks gritty, intense and fucking scary at points and while it still follows the same story arc as its predecessors, there's a new element being added in. Of course, Benedict Cumberbatch's villainous portrayal of Shere Khan seems equally as engaging, as there's a serious menace in his voice and characterization onscreen.

"For instance, Christian Bale as Bagheera".

Warner Bros. Pictures" "Mowgli' is scheduled for release in Ireland on October 19. Andy Serkis has also directed the movie and a lot of people are calling it a DCEU version of The Jungle Book.

Playing the titular role, Rohan Chand is confused but courageous at the same time. "There's no singing or dancing by the animals, that's for sure", says director Serkis. What if I told you there is a twist in the tale?

If you think you're in a time warp because you remember seeing this movie already, there's a reason for that.
